Forsberg Whale Drill
Forsberg Mfg Co Hand Drill model W-790 with a Whale logo. This looks a lot like the Millers Falls Model 77 but with a heavier frame. It has a 3 jaw chuck, a chef's hat top handle with space for bits (none included) and a solid wheel with no remnants of the label present. An excellent example of a less common tool maker from the early-mid 20th Century.

Rosetta Cedar
A section of a cedar I felled a couple of years ago. Weathered nicely and reminds me of The Rosetta Stone for some reason. I do know the history of the tree, since it was a cedar my mother and I brought home live from Arkansas in 1970 or 1971. It grew in our yard for years until Ike and a few lightning strikes damaged it beyond repair.

Damselfly and Minnows
An outing today to Camp Mohawk was mostly non-productive photo-wise, other than this damselfly on a log. When cropping it, I spied some minnows around the log. Didn't see them in the viewfinder! www.brazoria-county.com/parks/Mohawk/index.html Damselflies (suborder Zygoptera) are insects in the order Odonata. Damselflies are similar to dragonflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most damselflies are held along, and parallel to, the body when at rest. Furthermore, the hindwing of the damselfly is essentially similar to the forewing, while the hindwing of the dragonfly broadens near the base. Damselflies are also usually smaller than dragonflies and weaker fliers in comparison, and their eyes are separated. View On Black

Walking Stick
Walking sticks belong to the family Phasmatidae which includes walking sticks and leaf insects. They are also known as Phasmids (stick insects). As the Greek word "Phasma" suggests, they are apparitions, masters of camouflage and disguise, blending in with the surrounding foliage. They are "folivores" subsisting on plant and tree leaves.

Kiss Me!!!
Might be a prince! Is it a frog, or a toad? The physical distinctions, however, can easily get blurred because sometimes the features appear mixed or less obvious, and certain species even legitimately fall into both categories. It is not uncommon, for example, to find a warty skinned frog that isn't a toad, or even a slimy toad! Even the more invisible stuff like cartilage structure has been found to sometimes fit both categories!
In any case, I'm calling this a toad so I can enter it in the Monday Photo Challenge- letter T.Crepe Myrtle
Beautiful Crepe Myrtle blooms.
Lagerstroemia ( /ˌleɪɡərˈstriːmiə/),[1] commonly known as Crape myrtle or Crepe myrtle, is a genus of around 50 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia and parts of Oceania, cultivated in warmer climates around the world. It is a member of the Lythraceae, which is also known as the Loosestrife family. The genus is named after the Swedish merchant Magnus von Lagerström, who supplied Carolus Linnaeus with plants he collected.Crepe Myrtle

I have a favorite spot for sunrises. It is not far from home at a small airpark. I usually get several shots with the windsock included. This time you can see a cowboy waving. It was just before tropical Storm Don was to arrive, so I guess he was saying- "Bring It On!", though it never did hit here. Posting for the Monday Photo Challenge- letter S. View On Black

July 4th, 2011 Freedom's Light Shines Through!
"I believe our flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty, and freedom. It is the history of our nation, and it's marked by the blood of those who died defending it."

I was quietly doing some paperwork at the office on this quiet evening, when one of our drivers called asking me to open the front door. Glad he did, because I would have missed the sunset happening just outside the door.
The street lights have just come on, but can't compete with the wonderful light in the sky!Urban Sunset
